“If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything!” – Marty McFly in Back to the Future
Even when I was little, I knew that I wanted to express myself. There is a photo from kindergarten in which everyone is smiling, only little Izzie is making a tiger face. And I was so fidgety… I even lost my solo in church choir as a kid because I couldn’t stand still on the steps. I realised early on in my life that the perfect channel to express myself was the stage. Even when I was the wizard Kaschnur in “Kalif Storch” in elementary school, I felt at home.
Marty McFly – hardly a poet – reminds me every day to stay in touch with that child! So after graduating from the TU Dortmund with a B.A. in Applied Linguistics, I completed a professional musical theatre training in Mainz, Germany.
And do I regret it? No! The realm of the stage bears endless possibilities. Apart from musicals and plays, I can also be booked for weddings and parties… I have even sung at a wine tasting before and have participated in audio book recordings.
And the more time I spend in this business, the more I want to share the knowledge. This is why I started giving singing lessons and help young people prepare for performing arts school auditions. I also started translating musical theatre songs into German for all those people German performers who want their audience to understand what they are actually singing about because storytelling always comes first, right?
